Tenute Pili have a name that lovers of good wine can recognise. The name of a man who, in the lands of Soleminis, in southern Sardinia, cultivated vines and always produced excellent wines. By virtue of a long experience of working in the vineyards and in winemaking, today Le Tenute occupies a leading place in the Sardinian wine scene for the quality of the wines produced and the modernity of the systems. The phrase that identifies them, Our history in wines, represents the firm desire to preserve that continuity which, over the centuries, harvest after harvest, characterizes the culture of the Sardinian people.
Born in 1938, Carlo Pili founded the company together with his wife Vitalia, one of the first Sardinian women entrepreneurs in agriculture. Its municipality of origin, Monserrato , has for decades been the center of wine culture in the entire Cagliari area.
Carlo and Vitalia have produced wine for years, passing on the art of cultivating vines and winemaking to their children. Michele, Simone, Sabrina and Elisabetta were able to gather this precious experience and still treasure it today.
“Leaving a mark” is the goal of the Pili brothers in all phases of the work. From the cultivation of the vine to the harvest, from winemaking to business management, they are the four pillars of Le Tenute Pili .
In Sardinia, in the hills of Soleminis, the oenological heart of Parteolla, the oldest signs of human life discovered by archaeologists date back to the 3rd millennium BC and belong to populations who settled in these territories at the beginning of the Copper Age. Various theories have been put forward regarding the origin of the toponym “Soleminis”. According to some, its roots are to be found in the Latin term “Sollemnis”, a place where a religious festival is held every year. Others maintain that it derives from “Sol”, divinity of the Sun, and “Eminens”, high place. Numerous traces have been found in the area which demonstrate the existence of Nuragic villages dating back to the Monte Claro culture. The prehistoric peoples of such settlements produced pottery and cultivated the land. Over the millennia, Sardinia has been reached by many peoples from the Mediterranean. In this land, harsh but also generous, the vine has found a very favorable habitat. The lush agricultural expanses of Soleminis experienced the cultivation of vines and the production of wine in feudal times, when they passed into the hands of the Spanish. Today these lands belong to the Pili family who, following a centuries-old tradition, continues to cultivate vines and produce wine.
In the highest part of Le Tenute Pili , located in front of the ancient nuragic site Facc’e’Idda , the new cellar was built in 2009. Here the grapes are delivered immediately after harvesting, to then be transformed into that wonderful nectar called wine. The new cellar is a modern and efficient structure, equipped with the most sophisticated winemaking technologies. An excellent technical laboratory is its flagship.
In the production of Tenute Pili the new cellar has replaced the older one, located on the outskirts of the city of Monserrato . However, the old structure today not only represents a wonderful example of industrial archaeology, but comes back to life thanks to the setting up of the new showroom . In its premises, Le Tenute Pili sells its wines, even directly.
The Pili brothers, each according to their own skills, successfully manage a company which, starting from the passion of Carlo and Vitalia , has reached today’s entrepreneurial results in the production and marketing of quality Sardinian wines . It is the tangible sign of a culture which, in the continuity of work and in the thirty-five hectares of vineyard area of the company, continues to write the history of a family and an entire territory day after day.
And, precisely to remember the long history of the Soleminis vineyards , some wines from Le Tenute Pili bear the names of the ancient Spanish feudal families who, centuries ago, administered these lands.
